Emergency passport experiences

I have a suspicion my passport may have been stolen by an addict who I stupidly let spend the night a couple of weeks ago even after he stole from me before.

I have a UK trip starting 2 May. What can I do? I get bombarded by ads from companies when I try to google.

Do you or do you not have your passport? Assume you don't but who stole it or if you missed placed it is irrelevant. A stolen passport has little cash value so I would think an addict would steal something with great cash value. So report it lost/stolen and get to the passport office. When we last used that office it was in the Dirksen building downtown. Call the office, they will tell you want to bring. We got our passports in less than four hours BUT that was a few years ago.

As soon as you report your passport lost or stolen it will be canceled immediately. If you find it, is no longer usable.

For expedited passports from the State Department, if you are in the Chicago area:

Less than 2-3 weeks

I have urgent international travel plans. Example: you're traveling
overseas on June 22. Beginning June 1, you should schedule an
appointment at a passport agency or center that is on June 8 or later.
You can only go to the actual appointment within 2 weeks of
international travel (or 4 weeks if you need a visa).

Expedited Make an appointment at a passport agency or center (bring
proof of travel)

Passport Agencies

Proof of immediate international travel, the Expedited Fee, and an appointment are required for each application submitted in person at a Passport Agency or Center.

You can make an appointment online in a few minutes.

Chicago girl here. Had a similar experience. First, file a police report and keep a copy. Then go the Kluczynski building downtown. Contact and address is at the bottom of this link
You will have to make an appointment for an emergency passport. Bring your police report and a copy of flight itinerary showing the need for emergency passport to the appointment. I forgot what processing fee is but it’s not cheap.

Thank you. I made an appointment, but the earliest I could get was Monday. I have no proof the passport was stolen and a trusted friend will help me look through my apartment from top to bottom tonight to make sure I didn’t leave it someplace stupid.

I believe you also need proof of citizenship. A notarized copy of your birth certificate is one way. If your current name is different, you'd also need proof of the name change.

I was told I'd need those documents to replace a lost passport when I was heading back to Israel from Chicago. In the end I got a laissez-passer from the Israeli consulate.

Here are the required documents etc.:

Appointment confirmation number
Printed proof of international travel. Examples: Flight itinerary, hotel reservation, cruise tickets, international car insurance
Completed form(s)*
All required supporting documents*
One passport photo
Application fee and expedite fee. We accept:
Major credit cards
Debit/Check card (not ATM cards)
Cash (exact amount only- no change provided)
Checks
Bank Draft or Money order

*The agency accepts all forms for first-time and renewal customers. Not sure what forms or supporting documents you need?
Start at the Passport Application Wizard.

I would get all the documents etc. together TODAY, just to make sure you are not missing anything. FYI, several years ago a friend of mine discovered that her passport had expired, two days before their trip, when her SO went to get them out of their safety deposit box. She jumped through the hoops and go a new one the morning of her trip. Good luck.

Dale , do a very thorough search this weekend / a passport had pretty well zero value to an addict / they want things that can be sold or pawned easily - a paossoort is pretty worthless .

We reported my hubby’s passport lost once - and we DID search high and low - so it was annoying as heck when it did turn up a month later , no longer useful as once reported lost or stolen its cancelled and he’d already applied for new one , so just money down the hole
