Elopement & Honeymoon travel help

Assuming we can travel from the US to Europe next year my Fiancé and I are planning on getting married at Blausee in Switzerland in September 2021. From there we are going to travel around. We are having a hard time deciding where to go. I want to go everywhere but we only have two weeks to do it and I want to make it count. I want it to be relaxing, somewhat romantic, most importantly fun and memorable. This is loosely what I have figured out right now. We would fly into Bern stay the night there and enjoy some sights of the city. The next day we will travel to Blausee do the symbolic ceremony have pictures and stay the night there. We would then take the scenic drive from inter lakes through (can’t remember the name right now) to Munich Germany where we would partake in Oktoberfest for 2 or 3 nights and that’s as much as I got. Should we stick to Germany for the rest of the trip or do we have time to add in another place. I would say Amsterdam but I don’t want to go to Amsterdam until spring for the tulips and bulbs. I really want to go to Croatia and see Plitvice National Park. I’ve also thought about flying to Greece or dipping down into Italy for the remainder of the time. I want to be able to do right by Italy though. It’s a bucket list place and I don’t want to regret not having enough time there. Italy is what I want to make work the most. I’m also open to suggestions of other cities that you think would be better to visit.

Thank you in advance for you input!! 😊

If you're looking for a flight to Bern you will have to spend a lot of time finding a connection as there are very few flights to and from Bern. The major airports in Switzerland are Zürich and Geneva so I suggest you fly to one of them and take the train to Bern.

We would then take the scenic drive from inter lakes through (can’t
remember the name right now) to Munich.

Is that a creative way to spell Interlaken? And are you sure that a car is the best option, hiring a car in Switzerland and returning it in Germany will be expensive. So my recommendation is that you take the train for at least part of the trip, or a ferry across the Bodensee.

Should we stick to Germany for the rest of the trip or do we have time
to add in another place.

It seems like you have about a week left after Oktoberfest, that would certainly be time to go somewhere else, but staying in Germany can also be a good option. It sort of depends on what you want to see and do. Amsterdam is a lot more than tulips so don't count that out, and northern Italy is not that far away. Neither is Croatia, but are you sure it is a good time to see the national park?

You can do all the things on your list except relax. If you want relaxation to be a part of this experience, then in a two-week period you should visit no more than 3 places. Fortunately, you have plenty of time to think about what you want.

I totally agree with FastEddie. There are many, many places where you could spend 4 to 6 days with the option of enjoying local attractions at a relaxed pace or hopping on a train or bus to take a day-trip if you are interested in new surroundings. You don't have to cover a lot of territory to have a great variety of experiences. I'm no expert on Bavaria, but in addition to the big-city attractions of Munich, you have mountains, lakes, and small towns.

Listen to FastEddie. I too am afraid it will not be relaxing, romantic, or fun. And the memories you'll have will be of train stations, cab rides, and checking in and out of hotels.

It is amazing how much time is lost relocating. It's not just the actual travel time, but also the time spent packing up, checking out of the hotel, getting to the train / bus station, locating and getting to the new hotel, checking in, and unpacking. Don't mean to sound like Debbie Downer, but it is definitely somthing to consider.

Best wishes. Love long and prosper.

I would definitely recommend going to charming Luzern. It's an hour train ride from Zurich, and easy to do after an international flight. Get a hotel on the lake, with a view of the Chapel Bridge. It's a very walkable area, and you can then take a boat ride/cogwheel train to the top of Mt. Rigi. I also really like Bern, and you could swim around the city in the beautiful river in September. However, Luzern is one of my favorite cities.
The Swiss train system is a marvel, and will probably serve you much better than a car.
Why not spend at least a week in Switzerland?
Congrats and have a wonderful trip.

Having read through it again, I agree that it looks a bit rushed and that you should reconsider your plans a bit. And going to Italy after Blausee sounds like a good idea.

i would either stick to Croatia and Greece for that island life or Switzerland and Germany for more of a city and driving experience around, there are reasonable prices in any of the destinations you mentioned but you don't want to complicate your trip too much with a list of itneraries, it is better to stick to two places, i would spend a week in Croatia , Pltvice lakes, Kornati National Park , Krk waterfalls are some great places and the island of Cres is simply amazing.. for Greece i would go to Milos or Corfu, especially Corfu which has its own airport.
