I purchased 2 adaptors from amazon recently. We will be in Italy, Switz, and Germany. I assumed I would need them for charging my laptop and phone and other things like razor and hairdryer. Someone tells me now that I also need a converter because I can't use hairdryer or appliances without converting them. What's the real story? Please help.
If your chargers are dual voltage (100-240 V), then all you'll need is a plug adapter. That most likely will be the case with the chargers for your laptop and phone. It may or may not be true for the ones for your razor and hairdryer. Check each charger to be sure.
Linda,
In order to determine whether you'll need a Voltage Converter in addition to Plug Adapters, you need to check the Input Voltage ratings on EACH device you'll be travelling with.
If the ratings state Input Voltage 100-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz then you'll only need Plug Adapters to use these in Europe. You'll probably find that's the case with newer electronic products. However, it's likely that your Hair appliances will be 115 VAC only.
One other point regarding your Phone. Which cell network are you with? If AT&T or T-Mobile, you'll need to ensure you're using a quad-band GSM Phone.
