Electrical Adapter and Powerstrip

Hi ...

For our upcoming trip to France ... wondering if we could avoid purchasing several electrical adapters for our various appliances (i.e., computer, camera batteries, cell phones) by using a power strip.

We'd plug the appliances into the power strip and then plug the power strip into an electrical adapter.

Thanks for your comments/suggestions.

Definitely take a look at my posting from about two weeks ago... We're in Belgium right now and here's what we're using: If power conversion isn't the issue (it doesn't sound like it with the appliances you described), get one or two small euro-adapters, then go to Ace Hardware and buy a simple shorty extension cord with a 3-way plug with American-style receptacles. Test your cell phone and camera chargers to make sure everything fits. The extension cord is great because the European outlets in our room (there are two) are under a desk and under the endtable of our bed. We also took Lee's advice on my previous post and just got a 3-way American style receptacle at Ace and a euro-adapter for that, nice and small and light. We're charging my netbook, the camera batteries, and the cell phone. Bon voyage!

Elizabeth,

The first thing you'll need to do is check EACH of the Chargers, etc. you'll be travelling with, to ensure these are ALL designed for "world operation" from 100-240 VAC.

Monster Cables manufactures a small "travel" power strip that will tolerate operation on 220 VAC power systems. As you noted, you'll also need a Plug Adapter.

You could also consider a product like the ChargePod that has been mentioned in other posts here. I used one on my last trip to Europe, and it was fantastic to be able to charge six electronic gadgets simultaneously.

Also, could you advise which network your Cell phones are with? Unless your service is with AT&T or T-Mobile, your phones likely won't work at all in Europe.

Cheers!
