Hmmm,... Does this mean they have done all the delayed maintenance that couldn't be done while tourists were all over it and it is in tip-top condition, or has it been abandoned and everything rusted in place?

Had things gone right we would have been arriving in Paris on Thursday and seen it for the 1st time... next year hopefully

I do not have great luck with the Eiffel Tower, It and a handful of other structures are/were high on my list (I go to Europe for the structures as much as anything else). So on my first trip to Paris a few years ago I had booked a tour of the old communications bunker as well as the equipment then up to the Tower then on my own to the top.
It was a gorgeous day and we got up to the top had our briefing from our guide who was leaving us at that point when they announced a strike of the elevator operators so I had to go down before I could make it to the top.
Then the following year I scheduled a couple days in Paris to try it again. With a small hotel with a view from my little window in my tiny room of the top 2/3 or so of the Tower. This time with an evening time ticket so I could be up on the top as it got dark. Timing was PERFECT, but the clouds were so low that the top was completely enveloped in them. After talking with a few folks we didn’t bother to take the Elevator to the top, but stayed on the lower level grabbed some Junk food/snacks and had a great evening watching the lights come n in Paris, just from the wrong level.
Then last year I had a plan for a Trip to Europe. Fly into France, spend a couple nights mostly at a very slow pace getting over jet leg (my father and traveling companion was 88 last year so could use a day or two to recoup from the flight and Paris is a good city to relax in. Had a small hotel with a balcony that had a view of the Tower all set up. When my Father got seriously ill and can no longer travel over seas...
So three tries to get to the top in 3 years yielded 0 trips to the top...
I am starting to feel like I am in that movie where the actress keeps trying to see the Tower but something always stops her from seeing it.

Oh well some day. I will make it to the top.

Still I had a great time on both trips. But then again the Tower is just amazing to me so... any time I can see it in person is a great day.. I could be perfectly happy staying someplace with a fabulous view of the Tower and just spending a day or two looking at it.

Have been to Paris three times and have never had the desire to go to the top. There are other places in the city where one can get a great city view for free. Whether or not it’s open means nothing if one cannot travel there to see it. Guess it’s good if you live in France and want to go to the top with fewer other tourists.

It’s true, I guess I should take the opportunity to go — I only went up once, more than 25 years ago, when I came through as a backpacker.

A friend who lives in Rome posted a video a couple of days ago of her visit to the practically empty Vatican — including the Sistine Chapel. Now THAT I would run to see if it were in my city!!

We have enjoyed going to the top of the ET several times. The first time was on our first trip to Paris. We also took my mom there for a big birthday, and it was a highlight for her. My poor dad though, on his only trip to Paris it was raining and they were taking the steps back down and slipped on the last couple of steps and tore his rotator cuff. First day there too. So he doesn't have the fondest memories of the ET;)

So happy to hear things are getting back to normal! I love the Eiffel Tower. When it’s twinkling, I think it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.

I showed up on a weekday at about 8:30am about 5 years ago and had no wait. By the time I got back down it was a mess of tourists. I would give that a try.
