Does anyone know if the lift issues have been fixed at the Eiffel tower or are they still down to one lift? There are no advanced tickets available on their website and when I look at tours some, but not all, say due to lift issues there could be a 3 hour wait or in some cases they are substituting Montparnasse. I read on the message board that someone suggested walking up to the second level and then taking the lift to the summit since both those lifts work. Does anyone know if that's true?
Try posting your question in "To The West" section instead of General Section.
On another forum a local said they just finally got the other lift fixed,, it doesn;t get your out of the woods for a long wait,, it will still run about 1.5 hours during peak season.
Absolutely consider the stairs, lines are much shorter, and the climb is not too terrible.I have done it! And yes, you can get tickets to very top from second level, but frankly I think view is not worth the bother , extra expense and wait ,, views from 2nd level are great.
Glad I read this post. I was at the tower on Aug 4 and elevator was still out. I'll have to wander over there in the next couple of days and maybe I'll go up. I've been to the 2nd level before so I wouldn't be going for the view - just to say I've been to the top. Based on the suggestions I read here, I went up the Arc de Triomphe two nights ago to see the Eiffel Tower light show from there. It was fantastic! Also, no line at the Arc, what a treat.
