We are looking to take a 5:20 am flight out of Cairo in July. Is it safe for 2 adults to get to the airport? We are traveling with a group but their flights are later in the day.

Yes. Many flights out of Cairo are very early in the morning. Cairo bustles 24/7. You will have to leave for the airport in the middle of the night but traffic will be lighter, which is a benefit.

Is your hotel room near the airport? The hotel may have a shuttle to the airport.
If you have to get a taxi, make sure it is a reputable one, the hotel can call one for you and register the taxi driver.

If you take a reputable taxi there is very little risk involved.

We had a very early flight out of Cairo also. Our hotel called our taxi and we felt very safe and comfortable with that. They also got a taxi for us on another day and it was obvious that the hotel doorman (or whatever his title was) was very much in charge! Just let the hotel take care of this (It was a major hotel.)
