One thing that wasn't mentioned was that some passengers have reported problems getting their fingerprints to scan, taking MUCH longer than the 10-20 seconds that the fellow in the video estimates.

When I went through the process in Rome, the readers got slower and slower until they stopped. Then they sent us to different machines that worked intermittently. Hopefully they work out the bugs soon.

Thanks for the video, Frank II. I can only hope my 3-hour layovers at AMS in late August and mid-September are long enough to make my connecting flights. I gather it's a crapshoot whether you're in line 1 or 2, how well the fingerprint readers work, whether there's enough staff to go manual when necessary, how many flights are landing at a particular time, etc.

I've been re-entering the US biometrically for several years, I tihnk, and I don't remember problems like these. I hope the Europeans can get their act together.

Dick, the thing we found in Amsterdam, this last May is that they do not want you to miss your flight and agents were working to get short connection people thru the lines quickly. Good luck!

Seems the problems are fairly random, so answers to the question "What is it like at....." are likely to be of dubious value.

One thing that came out in the video, if i understood it correctly, is that not every airport is using the same equipment, and it seems not all are 'equal' in performance and reliability..

As the one commentator mentioned, 1-2 years to get all the wrinkles out is not unthinkable.

Hopefully the EU can get these problems ironed out over the next few months. The situation may improve in the fall when the volume of visitors decreases.

FrankII no idea. I sort of think it is the old system, because the new system isn't functioning. They said 16000 were for no proof of leaving in 90 days. Just how does that get checked at an EGate?

I am going to tryout Madrid's system in about 12 hours. This ought to be interesting.
