Eataway.com home cooked meals

In researching my trip this coming summer, I came across a website called Eataway. The premise is that people in different cities around the world, open their home, to paying tourists, for a home cooked meal.
When on the website, after choosing your city, they list all the available meals and dates. You click on the one that interests you, read the menu, a short bio of the host, price, and the date available. There is also a small map in the corner showing their location.

I thought this would be a different way to spend an evening and have a good meal. My question is, has anyone ever used this service? And if so, has was it?

We met a woman from Australia who did this in Paris and loved it.

Cool, but not unique idea. Having just checked Madrid, Toledo, Seville, Ronda, Cordoba, and Segovia, I'm guessing it's not popular in Spain yet.

I've been thinking of doing this in the US for German and French visitors. I will look into how to sign up. Doubtless you pay them a fee.

I didn’t think about being a host. Maybe something to consider when we retire. My husband is a chef, so the cooking wouldn’t be an issue, and we have our own home with a fairly large dining room and a large deck for outside dining. We are going to use the service in Krakow for sure, and the woman who hosts there is the founder of the website. We wil be able to find more information then.

I believe this idea started with the Slow Food movement in Italy. They certify traditional home cooks and offer home dinners at Cesarine.it. A few years ago, I also found eatwith.com, which does the same thing but in many more countries. I hadn’t seen eataway before your post.

Sadly, I’ve never been able to try any of these. When I travel alone, I can’t meet the minimum required to book one, and when I last traveled with my friends, they thought the idea was weird. I’m going to do it someday though. Love to hear your review when you return.

Some friends did this with Travelingspoon this summer. They don't have a big European base but have other interesting locals.

We will be 4 people so the minimum shouldn’t be a problem. After discussing it with my husband, he said yes, it sounds like fun. It will be our fourth trip together with the other couple (relatives). They have not been disappointed with any of my previous itineraries and keep asking us to travel together, so they will go where ever I plan. They are fabulous traveling companions. If it goes well, i am going to try and pick up a night in Warsaw before the end of our trip. Will check out eatwith.com too.
