EasyJet or Veuling?

I am looking to fly from Rome to Amsterdam in June and see that EasyJet and Veuling have service between the 2 cities at the lowest price. I have been reading reviews and both kind of scare me. Wondering if anyone has some experience to share or if someone has flown both to compare? Most of the Veuling complaints were when flying in or between Spain.

I've never flown Vueling but Easyjet is fine in my experience. No frills but OK for trips within Europe. Just make sure you are clear on the maximum size of hand luggage, and remember that when they say ONE hand luggage item they mean ONE, not a small case plus a big purse. Also, you need to either print your boarding passes in advance or use their smartphone app.

EasyJet is my favorite of the budgets. I will always choose them if they go where I want to go. The key with ALL of the budgets is to pay attention to their rules regarding baggage, check-in, boarding passes, etc., and follow them EXACTLY. Most people who have complaints have run afoul of a rule along the line. EasyJet lets you check-in well before your trip, so you can often check in before you even leave the US (and take your boarding pass with you). I have never been late on an EasyJet flight, the staff has always been pleasant, and even my checked bag arrived with no problem.

As a Spanish airline, Vueling will naturally have the most complaints (and also compliments) regarding their preponderance of flights that involve flying within, from, and/or to Spain. They were excellent, professional, comfortable, and on-time flying us from Bilbao to Barcelona in November 2013, and the price was certainly right. The only complaint would be that one of our cloth-sided suitcases arrived on the baggage carousel wet (it was raining when we landed), and the baggage handling system didn't keep everyone's bags dry. Not a huge deal, but at least the other suitcase arrived high and dry, and this may have been more about the Barcelona airport and not Vueling itself.

We had an equally good flight on easyJet the year before, flying from Rome to Palermo, Sicily. If they get you there safely and when you want to go, go with the cheapest airline!

mcclain,

I've flown with both easyJet and Vueling, and have had no problems at all. easyJet is my preferred budget airline in Europe and I always book with them first if they have flights on the route I'm travelling. As mentioned previously, it's important to read their Terms & Conditions carefully so there are no surprises.

Have had great experiences with Easyjet. If you think you might be over with luggage, use
their Flexi fare. This price includes checked bag, seat reservation and priority boarding.
Still enables you to have a carryon.

My main problem with Vueling is that some of their flights have connections that are too long.

I use EasyJet exclusively.

No need for a flexi fare, unless you want one. To check a 20 kg bag is only £14 or £15 per leg.

Expect the plane to be full. I always pay a little extra for the first few rows which comes with Speedy Boarding and a bit more room in the locker.

Just learn and follow the rules.

My flight from Nice to Gatwick this week was on a brand new - still with that new car smell - Airbus 320. Best flight yet.

I am a regular flyer with Easyjet and think they are better than many of the Legacy carriers.
Stick to the rules as other have said and you have no problems. They are really great for on time arrivals and departures . I have flown with them 6 times in the last 3 months and worse delay was 5 minutes and twice we arrived more than 20 minutes early.Have more flights with them in May

I have flown on Easyjet and Vueling.. both are fine by me..

One note.. on Easyjet you are allowed one carryon.. and that means ONE.. not one carry on bag AND your purse/camera bag/ laptop.
On Vueling you are allowed one carryon plus one of the smaller ones I just listed.

I would fly both again ( and likely will ) .. deciding factor is schedule, cost, and airports used.

I have also used the dreaded Ryanair.. and was also satisfied..

Read everything on the websites for all these airlines.. pay attention to luggage allowances.

I also pre pay for a checked bag.. even if I think I may carry it on.. because prepaying usually is MUCH cheaper then having to pay to check a bag at the airport if they decide it is too large to carry on.. and they are very strict about measurements and weights.. don't assume they will allow you to fudge it a bit..

In Munich airport years ago my hubby was using another cheapo airline ( think it was either Tuifly or Airberliner....not sure now) and he saw a young man start to unpack his over weight carry on and pull clothes on top of his clothes.. lol...

one thing about EasyJet carry-on, though they have a strict size limit they do not have a weight limit for carry-ons . They do have 2 sizes of carry-on, the smaller size is guaranteed and the larger size may have to be gate checked if the flight is busy but if gate checked it is free of charge.I was flying with EJ a few weeks ago from Berlin and one of our party had to check their bag , by the time we got through passport control in Edinburgh their bag was waiting for them in arrivals.

I work for a consultancy company in the UK and we travel extensively all across Europe. Since last year EasyJet is blacklisted in our company because of their poor on-time performance on evening-return flights. In 2013 and 2014 half of all EasyJet evening return flights were cancelled and people had to fly back on their own expenses the next morning. (EasyJet does put you into a hotel, pays for breakfast and offers you a free flight back within the next couple of days, but usually not on the next).

Vueling is fine. You get what you pay for.

We just flew with Vueling within Spain (Barcelona to Granada), and the only surprise was learning how they pronounce the name: sounds like Vwelling. While I would not want to fly over the Atlantic in the same plane, it was fine for a short hop.
I had been worried about the tough carry-on restrictions, and I was prepared to have our bags weighed, so I could shift things to our RickSteves' rollaboards (which we were checking), if needed. The agent took one look at our carry-ons and said 'no problem' and didn't weigh them. I was surprised at just how large some carry-on for other passengers was. Our checked bags arrived without problem.
We did purchase our tickets months and months ahead and also opted for the fare class that included the checked bag and seat assignment.
It met our expectations...in fact, it exceeded our expectations, since my expectations were for more hassles, and we had none.

Have not flown Veuling by have flown EasyJet on several occasions and was always well satisfied with the experience. Seems to me their 'no-frills' were less 'no-frills' than US budget airlines. Understand the baggage rules and follow them though. They are strict but they let me carry a banjo on board the plane. Seems several European airlines are more considerate of musicians than their American counterparts.
