Easy way to charge an iPod in Europe

I recently bought a dual-voltage (100-240 volt) iPod charger kit for just a few dollars online (contains both a cigarette lighter plug for vehicular use and a regular wall plug for home/hotel). The only other thing you need for europe is a plug adapter for plugging the US plug on the charger into the european sockets (available on this website, among others).

It likely won't do you any good to "Check your current plug in wall charger" as suggested in a previous reply, as IPods are normally charged via the USB Sync connection on your computer.

There are two easy answers to your question:

1.) If you're travelling with a number of electronic products (IPod, Cell Phone, PDA, etc.), using This Product is a good solution. You would however need inexpensive Plug Adapter(s) for the parts of Europe you'll be travelling (UK style is different than the continent).

2.) If it's only the IPod you're concerned with, These Chargers work extremely well and take up virtually no room in the Rucksack (I know, because I use one). Again, you'll need a Plug Adapter.

My son has taken his iPod to Europe many times and says there's 2 ways to do it...as Steve said, just use the charger that came with it, with an adapter, and plug into the wall there. Or, you can charge it via a computer as Ken said.

I always take my iPod and have just used my plug in charger that came with it (plus the plug adapter of course). I've never had a problem. I haven't traveled with my USB cord, but it is a good thought for future trips-I think some airplanes are starting to have USB ports to plug into.

Why not? My IPod charges both when plugged into the wall or via the USB Sync.

I have a "plug" that goes on the end of the USB cord and converts it into a wall charger. Works great and is actually what I use much more then the 'from the computer' method.

So some at least some of them are "normally charged" via a plug in the wall.

When traveling to Europe all I need is a plug adapter.

Yeah I'm confused too as to how one can define 'normalcy' for another, 'normally' my own iPods are charged via the good old fashioned outlets. Grab yourself an adapter (which you'd likely need anyways) and you should be good to go. Also, Steve, that picture is hilarious!

Also, there are small portable charging devices that you can carry to charge your iPod on the train or wherever there isn't an outlet. I like the Tekkeon charger and it works great for my iPod. It comes with various attachments to charge different devices.

The point I was trying to make is that some IPods are not normally provided with a "wall Charger". My IPod Touch was ONLY provided with a USB Plug to connect to the computer for charging - nothing else was supplied by Apple.

While I do have a plug-in wall Charger for travel, I had to purchase that separately.

Based on Kelly's OP, no external Charger was supplied with his/her IPod either. Bringing a USB Cable and connecting to the Hotel's computer is NOT an option that's going to work well.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I was at Staples today and stumbled upon the exact combination I needed. It's one device that: charges a USB cable (ipod), also charges a phone or camera simultaneously, came with a EU adaptor, and had a built-in surge protector! In one small, compact size, on clearance for $8. A great traveling find. Thanks for the tips, helped me know what I was looking for when I found it.
