Since so much of Europe has the same week before Easter off to observe the holiday, where is a good place to go that isn't overrun with vacationers?! Proximity to Spain is important. Thanks!
We were in Portugal last year for the week after Easter (arrived Good Friday and left the following Friday). While this coincided with Portugal's school vacations we didn't find it overrun with vacationers at all. Weather was nice and we had a blast.
Any particular cities or resorts to recommend in Portugal? Thanks so much for the lead!
We were in Cascais, Evora and Lisbon. We really enjoyed exploring the Alejento region - and in Evora was by far our favorite hotel (ever) - Albergaria do Calvario. Great place with parking inside the walled city. People rave about Porto but we didn't get up there. In that vicinity is Braga and that is supposed to be very busy during Easter Week.
The German spring break/Easter holiday is the last week of April.
Thank you! That is helpful - I wonder what other places in Europe take the week after Easter off instead of the one before it? In the U.S. it seems every school district and region does it differently.
