Has anyone had a problem with a comcast e-mail address while in Europe? I have tried to send e-mails to Battlebus for reservations and it will not go through. I plan to take a dell mini with me for my trip but it will be useless if comcast will not go through while there. Comcast tells me there is no block on this end and Battlebus says the same on their end but something does not work.
I think I had problems with one of my email addresses too. Just make a new address with Yahoo or Google hotmail to get around this problem. They were not getting mine from my aol.
Open a gmail account and try that if you have a problem.
In general, I have been able to use my comcast email in Europe without problem. However, I have read of people having issues with comcast mails not going through.
Most people don't know this, but you can use a Yahoo Mail account to access not only your email for your Yahoo account, but also email from your regular ISP account. You can set it up at the "check other mail" option at Yahoo Mail. You will need your pop server information, if you use a program like Outlook you can copy that info from the setup section.
Tony,
I've seen some posts on the HelpLine in the past regarding AOL or Comcast subscribers that have had problems contacting BattleBus. If Comcast has stated there is no "block" on their end, it's possible that something in the protocol from the ISP in France is the problem? I've had no difficulty in contacting BattleBus from my ISP.
Setting up another E-mail account with Yahoo or other providers is probably your best solution to this problem. As Michael mentioned, some of these will be able to "poll" your regular E-mail so you'll still have access to that.
Cheers!
Thanks for the info. I will try Yahoo and see if that will work. Now that I have a job I can get an e-mail to Battlebus from here, but could not understand why it would not work with comcast.
I have a Hotmail account that I have used for years to keep in touch with home while traveling. It came in particularly handy a year ago when I couldn't get an open line with my phone card; I could still keep in touch with people over here.
Actually, email works quite well because it seems that times that are convenient for me to call from Europe are inconvenient for people over here and vice versa.
That's why it is nice having Wifi in my hotel, because I can leave and pick up email whenever I want.
Tony,
I posted a while ago (last fall, I think?) about this problem. We had the same problem you are having with Battlebus and our comcast account. I ended up setting up a yahoo account that I used for all our trip correspondence and while I was in Europe. I also have trouble with Comcast and our Swedish relatives. For some reason it is blocking their e-mail as spam (same as Battlebus). Not sure if it's because of the origin or what, but very irritating. You can fill out a form online with Comcast to have it not blocked as spam. See if that works.
It was weird though, as e-mail wouldn't even show up in spam or wouldn't be returned to my relatives. To them it looked like I was ignoring their e-mails and on my end I never even knew they e-mailed me! I just use my yahoo account with them now.
I found that Comcast e-mail was often blocked as spam. Don't know why, but it was easy to use Hotmail and I had no problems getting e-mail delivered or, once there, reading my e-mail at Internet points.
Comcast has not been very helpful at all. They say they have no blocks but Battlebus says they get e-mail from all other accts. Comcast said it was a problem on the other end. I said yes, the problem on the other end is comcast as they are not delivered. Will see what I can do with Yahoo or Hotmail if I can figure out how to do that. Thanks everyone. Think I need Michael as a tutor.
I found Comcast not very helpful either. My sense is they overreach on what they block as spam and more gets caught up then normal. I guess if they screened less we'd probably be up in arms with all the spam we're getting!
Interesting that I've never had any problems with any friends or accounts in the US. Maybe they are more sensitive to e-mail from abroad?? Not sure how that can be tracked or if it can with IP addresses?
Setting up hotmail or yahoo account is pretty easy. You'll get it up and running in no time!
we actually both have a hotmail and yahoo accounts for traveling. as rare as it is one service has gone down in the past..so we are just covered.
everyone that we would email knows and would recognize these back up email addresses
