Dublin Scotland or Finland :)?

Hello all!

I am returning to Europe in Aug 2018 and I would love for some advice for my trip

I am coming from Los Angeles LAX

I am interested in visiting

Scotland Or Dublin or Finland
Berlin Germany
Prague
Amsterdam (was considering cutting this out but not suRe!)
Croatia
Barcelona (considered cutting this out to spend more time elsewhere)

My husband enjoys nature. So we thought visiting something scenic like Scotland/ Dublin/ Finland would be great. I have read some posts/ google forums saying that some preferred Scotland to Dublin. Not much info on Finland! We have in-laws in Finland willing to show us around so that is why i tossed it in as an option :)

We are big big foodies and enjoyed most of what Europe had to offer us except for Venice and Colmar (Colmar being so small we really did not need much time there)

If anyone would be so kind as to advice us on things to skip or things that are maybe overrated? Or preferences between different areas I would appreciate it!

My honeymoon Europe tripped consisted of 24 days in Europe and we went to London- Paris- Colmar- Venice- Santorini- Rome. it was magical :D

Scenery. IMHO two most scenic countries in Europe are Norway and Switzerland. Also two of the most expensive. But as we say you get what you paid for. Out of countries or cities you named: Scotland is more scenic than Finland. Scotland has barren mountains and also lakes and seashore (cold for swimming). Scotland is of course not independent country (yet). Finland has a lot of forests and lakes but not real mountains. Dublin is capital of Ireland (not particularly scenic (IMHO). Berlin is also not scenic, it is mishmash of modern and old but it is exciting city. Germany has it all; high mountains, big rivers, medieval towns, castles, seashore ..you name it. Prague is a very scenic eye candy. Amsterdam - very tolerant town-when you are there you get a feeling of smaller town than it really is. And of course famous canals. Croatia - very scenic seashore and famous Plitvice National Park. Barcelona - haven't been there yet, but certainly worth visit. I suggest do your own homework, read Rick Steves books: Best of Europe and Europe Through the Back Door. And google countries and cities.

Hi!

Thanks for your reply.

I actually meant just between Finland, Scotland, and Dublin/ Ireland which would be a great stop :)

All the other destinations we are doing for the food/ scenery/ adventure. I figured we would get our fill of lush green mountains or lakes by visiting just one of the aforementioned options and maybe could allocate our time to other places if we cut down our list.

I was afraid of that: You're going to go to all of those places on the same trip. Dare I ask how many nights you'll be spending in Europe?

On a more positive note, a former colleague used to go to Finland every year with his Finnish-born wife, always in August. I asked him why, and he said August is Finland's summer. So your August trip is an opportune time. And you have relatives ready to show you around. That would definitely be my choice.

Mind you, I've never been to Finland, Ireland, or Scotland. I have been to your other destinations, however. Please see paragraph 1.

15-16 days.

I have done trips like this before. With careful planning I am able to usually make good use of my time and give about 3-4 days per area. Maybe Prague only needs 2 days?

Probably skip Amsterdam.

I was wondering especially about the logistics for Croatia. It doesn't have good rail service from other countries, in general. Do you have your destination(s) within that country pinned down?

Three full, non-jetlagged days (four nights) would be my rock-bottom minimum for Barcelona (I spent ten nights there and it wasn't long enough), and that really wouldn't give you time for nature-related activities like visiting Montserrat.

It looks as if you're going to be flying from stop to stop except between Berlin and Prague. It just seems like a great deal of time spent moving from place to place when there are so many wonderful things to see in each of those areas.
