Dual Voltage Flat Iron - "Voltage adjusts automatically"????

Hi - Just bought a small dual voltage Conair flat iron for an upcoming trip to Sweden. I opened it and could not find the voltage adjustment button. the instruction booklet says that the flat iron "adjusts automatically" to the voltage. This is new to me! Has anyone used an electrical appliance that adjusts on its own to a different voltage? I am afraid I'm going to blow out the electrical system of our hotel when I turn it on.

I used one of those in Ireland last spring. It seemed to work fine--no power shorts and no fried hair :-).

Near all of the new electronic gears adjusts automatically. It is rare to see a switch.

True, but a flat iron generally isn't regarded as an electronic item.

If it is a black and yellow one, I think I have a similar one. When you first use it abroad, try it at a lower temp than you normally have it, when you first heat it up, to make sure you know what temp it will be without burning it out accidently..

When mine was on the middle of the dial setting in London, it got as hot as it does at home on the highest setting.

If it's the same one I have (bought at the drugstore for about $20), it's tiny and just has an on/off switch. It worked fine.

I bought a remington wet/dry flat iron that also drys like a blow dryer. I'm hoping it works ok. :)

Yes, it is tiny and black with a yellow dial, bought it inexpensively at Walmart, so it must the same one.

I have the same one too and was nervous because I used 2 flat irons before which burned out. I just returned and used it in Spain, Italy, and Czech Republic. The only place I had a problem was in Russia but I think that was because the outlet was 230v. You will be fine. By the way, I have thick wavy hair and I used the same settings I use at home.

In reverse: my hair straightener from home went out on me while in London this past March. I bought one at Boots, didnt even realize it was dual voltage. When i got home i tried it, although i found no voltage switch. Have been using it here ever since-with only an adapter plug i had bought over there.
