Driving age in Europe

What is the maximum age to rent a car in the EU?

Thank you.

I have seen some comments about this elsewhere, and from what I remember, it depends not on EU law, but on the rental company's policy; which may have something to do with insurance. I'll be curious to see what responses you get, because I'm not that many years from the possible maximum of 70.

I rented a car from Hertz in Italy when I was 72.

Depends on the country. Denmark maxes out at 80, but some other countries will just charge higher fees for rentals

I rented in France this year, at the age of 77. I think it depends on the company, not on the country. If you go to the AutoEurope site, they'll ask your age. I presume they, then, offer you deals from companies that will accept you.

Maybe more closer to minimum age!

Within the EU / UK still there are differences between countries for maximum age and driving rental cars. So I think best is anyway to contact your car rental company about the relevant rules. So as neighbouring countries can have different rules get well informed in case planning to cross borders.
