We are contemplating a ski trip to France or Austria this winter but hear that the ski resorts are really hurting for snow and that the conditions are not great. Does anyone have some recent experience visiting ski resorts who could advise us whether it's worth making the trip from Canada?

I would be tempted to head west and ski Canada instead. Whistler has seven feet (83") of snow from base to top.
We have some friends who are skiing in Varena, Italy, just south of Bolzano, in the Dolomites. Their pictures look fantastic and there is plenty of snow!
