It seems the older I become, the heavier I pack. I've always done things backwards. So, if I bought the RS 21 inch wheelie, it would be my largest carryon yet. If you own this bag, how do you like it? And most important, does it fit wheels first into the overhead luggage bin; specifically, on a 757? I am also assuming that the full length is 22" or less.
Thanks for your input.
We have two and have used them for several years now. They are high-quality and have held up beautifully. Purchased one, and my spouse loved it so much we instantly placed an order for a second one. Have had no problems fitting in overheads, but I think we have to place them sideways in most overheads. Obviously they are checked plane side on the tiny commuter flights (feeder airlines). But, on the standard/larger planes no problem. The wheels work beautifully and have served us well on the cobblestones of Italy and bouncing through various train stations and metro stops. We use one for folded/rolled type clothing and one we use to place what would normally be a nylon hanging bag of pressed trousers/starched shirts, etc. My husband folds garment bag twice and it lays in there nicely that way he has his clothing on hangers when we arrive. We also like the adjustable handle. We've recommended these suitcases to several friends, and they now love their Rick Steves' rollaboards, too. If you go on a Rick Steves' group tour, be sure to put some sort of distinguishing thing on the outside of your bag, but a good idea regardless. I almost grabbed someone else's identical bag when being dropped at the airport. (Everyone loves these bags.)
Margaret said about the same as I would have said. My wife and I take ours everywhere including to Europe every summer. Mine measures: 23" x 14" x 8 1/2" empty. Only two times in all of my travels with the bag (once in the US - once in Europe) have I been stopped and both times it was because I had over packed it and it was too fat. I ended up removing some clothing both times and stuffed that into my carryon computer case (a big one) and was passed along. I know if you purchase it from the RS store, they will guarantee it but if you purchase it elsewhere you have to deal with the place you purchased it if anything ever does go wrong.
Thank you both. You were a big help,
