Does anyone wear leather money belt anymore? I mean the kind that holds your pants up and looks like a normal belt, but has a zippered compartment on the inside for cash? It wouldn't hold a passport or train tickets, but it would hold a lot of cash.
Jenny, That style of Belt still seems to be available, but I've never seen anyone using them.
Do you mean a thing we call a "fanny pack",, no, I wouldn't use them, too easy to pick pocket( yes,, they can be that good) plus there is the dork factor.
A friend of mine uses the old money belt. He's had it a long time. I prefer the one which attaches to your belt and hangs inside. Tried a neck wallet but it could be seen through my shirt.
Sorry, I don't think I'm being understood. This is a leather money belt and nothing like a fanny pack. It does not look like it has money or anything else inside. It looks like a normal belt worn through the belt loops and used by non-tourists at home all the time for holding their pants up. Actually, it's the kind of money belt the the current under-the-cloths variety is named after. It will hold a surprising amount of cash. What it will not do is hold hold wider items like a passport. After all it's only a little more than an inch wide.
I use this belt for traveling: http://www.tombihn.com/page/001/PROD/ACC/TB0935 It has no metal so it's usually not a problem at airport security. I stash some extra cash in there. I also use a "Hidden Pocket" moneybelt for most things but keep a few bills in the "Tom Bihn" belt as back-up. I believe Eagle Creek makes something similar and Magellans carries one that is more traditional looking. These will not hold much--just a few bills and perhaps a couple of pieces of folded up paper. I also recently switched to a new wallet: http://www.daymakers.com/shopexd.asp?id=342 It has a zippered pocket for bills, a smaller zippered pocket for coins, and a open pocket in the back for a credit card. The open pocket in the back has an overhang so the card won't slip out. The main pocket has a small sleeve inside just big enough for a key or a chapstick/lipstick. And, the front panel is partially made of rubber to add friction should someone try to remove it without you knowing.
Yes, I have a leather belt with an inside-zippered compartment across the back. When traveling, I usually keep a couple of $20s and a 50 euro or pound bill, depending on location in case of emergency. It is the kind of thing you can get by without until you need it, like the time an airport ATM would not accept my debit card and it had not occurred to me to carry a second card from another bank. Also a time or two when there was not an ATM convenient. I bought the belt at Belk's, a chain department store, at our local mall several years ago. I don't know if they make them for women, but I have not looked.
Yes. I use an actual pants belt with a zipper that holds money. I don't care much for pouches or things you hide under your pants. Many years ago as a U.S. serviceman I was pick-pocketed in Paris. Ever since then I've never carried a regular wallet and I use my belt when overseas. I've never been a victim since.
Yes, I wear a leather one here in the USA. I travel regionally often and it's nice to have some emergency funds as backup. I also have a nice nylon one with plastic buckle made by Pacsafe which does not set off metal detectors. These type of money belts still have utility. I also have the type that you tuck between your body and clothing at the waist for passports and credit cards.
