Hello everyone,
Has anyone kept in touch with Chris?
The last we heard from ChrisF was on 3/26/20 when he posted that he was moving from Basel, Switzerland to England:
A trip across Europe, or moving home in strange times
I hope he’s okay...
Hmmmm, no. I remember that post.
That is worrisome. Hope he is okay and we will hear soon. Thanks for thinking of him Priscilla.
Hope you and your family are well.
It has been too long.
Chris, if you're reading this, let us know if you're OK?
He was moving to a new country in the middle of a horrendous international situation. It's been just over 2 weeks so I think maybe he's just a little busy with getting to and getting set up in his new home to be browsing a travel forum. I agree that it's nice for someone on here to care about him and wanting to know how things are going for him, but maybe a little early to worry about it. I hope all is well with him.
I would bet he is still waiting on his Internet to be connected at his UK home. From what I had heard from friends and coworkers in the past, this is not something that happens quickly there and with the current lockdown, probably even slower.
Part 2 might be a bit delayed, the house does not yet have internet.
Perhaps he is like Tom Hanks in the movie The Terminal, stuck in a bureaucratic quagmire(quarantine? )
Or the entity that sets up internet service is shut down or way behind.
Hope all is well
Very thoughtful of you Priscilla.
I too hope everything’s ok and Chris is doing well.
I hope so too, but I kinda like the Tom Hanks idea. ;-)
When you are moving, posting your status to the RS Forum is probably a very low priority item.
Priscilla,
Thanks for the reminder, as I'd forgotten all about Chris' previous post. I suspect that the pressures of moving between countries and establishing a new household in the midst of a pandemic are keeping him very busy. As others have noted, he may not have internet service yet, although he could certainly still use his phone.
I've been thinking of upgrading my internet to fibre but have found that's not possible right now, as the provider won't allow their technicians into residences due to the pandemic. Perhaps that's also the situation in the area Chris is moving to?
Hopefully we'll receive an update from Chris in the not-too-distant future.
This gives new meaning to the phrase, "It was the best of times. It was the worst of times."
Very little non-essential is moving here in the UK. If Chris F needed white goods (fridge, washer, that sort of thing) then he may be waiting as the only place to really get those right now is online - and delivery is whenever it happens unless you happen to be lucky enough to have home delivery of groceries. For that matter, if he needs a home router for wifi, he may be waiting (unless he got a deal to supply one with whatever utility company supplies his internet - which will arrive by mail). Food will be fine, but he will likely need to queue due to the limited number of folks being allowed into stores.
I have seen very few tradesmen out working (I am sure there are some, just not many), at least in the north - the ones I have seen seem to be completing essential repairs to roads, fixing water main breaks, that sort of thing. If Chris F needs utility work to his flat/house in Cornwall to be done for an internet connection, we may not hear from him for a bit, unless he can connect with his phone.
The important thing right now is that from his post, we know he made it to the UK safely.
It’s been almost 3 months, and still no word from Chris.... I hope he’s okay...
To set your mind at ease, have you sent him a PM? He may not want to come out of hibernation publically. He will have had a lot on his plate or may have just moved on from travel forums. Either way, we should respect his silence. Look at it positively and consider it his personal choice.
