Does anyone have a tip for speeding up getting the Global Entry ID card?

We live in North Carolina and recently completed the application for the Global Entry ID card and then tried to schedule an interview to complete the process. The only location in NC is at the Charlotte Airport and all interview slots are totally booked though the end of 2016. The closest other enrollment centers are in Atlanta(a 5 hr drive) or Washington, DC( a 6 hour drive). I've been told that no appts are being scheduled for 2017 as their "calendar" at the TSA Customs and Border Control is not available yet.
We are traveling yet in September and again in April 2017 to Europe. Looks like the wait time is going to be at least 3-4 months to get our photo, fingerprinting and ID. Any Helpful hints or suggestions greatly appreciated!!

We successfully got appointments one week out by logging in continuously every few minutes to look for new appointments that come on line. It works! I learned about it on the FlyerTalk website and other posters on here have had success doing it. It took me maybe 35 or 40 logins to get my appointment. This was at SeaTac.

But in the meantime, you could look at the Mobile Passport app. Some people have zipped through without Global Entry

Here are two recent threads about the Mobile Passport app:

And, as Valerie says, several people have posted that by continuously checking the CBP website throughout the day, they were able to snag a cancellation for an appointment in the very near future (sometimes the next day or week).

Carla, BTW we were told that the card is only for Canada/US land border crossing. The GE status is linked to your passport and is granted right away after your interview. Card comes in the mail a week or so later. Your GE status is read when you scan your passport at the airport. Confirm this at your interview, but I believe that is correct.

We showed up early on the day of our appointments, and they took us in right away as there were many no-shows.

I agree with checking daily--several times per day, for earlier appointment. Also, I signed up for email notifications. I used both my email account and my husband's (2 different accounts). This helped, he got an email, I didn't, concerning earlier appointment times. Our original appointments were scheduled for Oct. We re-scheduled for first week of August.

Sign up for notifications, and keep checking! Hopefully, you will get an earlier appointment.

Are you traveling anywhere domestically? You can make an appointment at any airport that does the GE appointments.

What I did, when faced with a nine month wait at my home airport, was make an appointment at an airport that had openings I was traveling through on a business trip. This meant I had to arrive at the airport a little earlier than normal for my flight back home, but was able to get the GE interview done and I had everything within a week of completing the application and being informed I could do the interview.

We contacted our Congressman's office and they were quite helpful in speeding up the process for us...

I'm trying Mobile Passport this year. It takes a couple minutes to download the app, scan your passport and take a selfie. After that it may be easier to use the app than fill out the form. I'll review it when I get back.

Well I sent an email to our congressman's office explaining our frustration with scheduling and after a couple emails back and forth his staff member was able to get us an interview date. We also than had to contact his office when my card came but my husband's did not - again - after a couple emails his card arrived USPS signature required.
