Do your research

I’m planning a trip to Italy for next May for 8 people. We also take a cooking class so I thought, why not a gelato class.
After first putting in Gelato Class in Sorrento, a few came up. One was L’Accademia. No prices in the website, never a good sign. I what’s up them, they get back to me the next day, €150pp for a 3 hour class. No thanks.
Next up on the list is Viator and Get Your Guide. Get your guide had one for €71. It says Meet at the AnticaGelateria Sorrentina. I googled the gelateria and through their website found the same class to book through them for €30.
Moral - do a little digging and sometimes you will be rewarded.

Barbara - I think you're preaching to the choir here in this group of compulsive planners. :-D

David's Gelato in Sorrento has classes. It should be recommended in the RS Guide.
Their gelato is fabulous , but we weren't there on the gelato -making class day.
They are close to the train station.
Have fun!

We did a gelato making demonstration in Sorrento with our RS tour. If I remember correctly we watched him stir up the ingredients and pour them into the Refrigomat machine and then we tasted the resulting gelato. Oh and we got our own scoop from their counter on the way out. Sure hope this isn’t what you’re paying 30 euros to see.

margie, unless your tour spent 3 hours watching the demonstration, I doubt that is what Barbara is talking about. She mentioned a 3 hour gelato class, not a demonstration.

Barbara, it sounds wonderful! And yes, you are being rewarding for doing your research! Way to go!

Celeste There are many people who come here to the forum to ask about booking through third parties or just basic questions. I was hoping this thread would help them.

MargieThe class also includes Granita and sorbets. Even if it isn’t too ‘hands on’ it will be a fun hour for our group. We did a class together in Taormina so we want something different this time. It’s all good.

Pat will check out David’s Gelato. Still researching. I see cheese classes at my place too.

If anything, this Forum shows that not everybody does ANY research!

I would rather do laundry in prison than take a cooking class on a vacation, but I do like me some gelato!

Thanks for posting.

Anything you buy on Get Your Guide will have a 25-30% commission added to it. So, if you can find the website that is offering that tour, you will save money. Viator the same, but the commission runs between 22-25%.

Ms. Jo yes, that is a high % but many people just book it cause they don’t want to or know how to dig a little deeper to find the actual tour’s website. I think of it as a puzzle trying to find the original source.
