Do you check your RS posts when you are overseas?

I've noticed a few post that say "We are leaving in 1 week, what ??? would you recommend". I've noticed posts after the poster has left for their European vacation. Do you check your RS posts when you are overseas?

Absolutely. These threads are a great source of information for pre-trip prep and for once that your boots are on the ground. Internet access is a breeze in Europe and, especially if you're in France, a great source for "strike" info.

Thanks Ed, I see those type of post and I don't respond. Now I know that it's ok.

Sometimes but is low on priority list. However, if I need some quick info, then I do.

If I have a wifi link I definitely check and respond. It's of the fun things about the web - it's borderless. ; ) Pam

I must admit I rarely check the Helpline when I'm on the road, because I'm doing the things I went all that way to do. I love the Helpline and appreciate all you contributors but want to savor my travel moments by doing the things I can't do at home. But my hat is off to all those dedicated Helpliners who do manage to check the Helpline when they're in Europe. Now that's dedication.

If I have wifi available I sometimes spend late evenings or early mornings on the computer, when I have some down time. I have been known to check the RS posts...

Of, course. Here at home, every morning, I come down to see what's been written on the Wall. No difference in Germany. Every morning, over there, if I have Internet access, I check my email to see what's happening at home, then I check ETBD. I have a responsibility (thanks Kent) to provide German Rail info to those who need it, and I take that very seriously. And, I agree with Pam, the great thing about the Internet is, it's borderless.

And we at the Helpline are most grateful to Lee for taking the time to keep us informed on German Rail.

I check the helpline whenever I get Internet while in Europe, usually at night before going to bed or early morning, same as at home.
Lee's advice on German rail saved us time and money, he is always very helpful, Thanks again Lee!

I don't have time to when I'm in Europe. Just spent a month in Paris and barely had time to write in my journal everyday. Even that was a challenge. There's way too many things to see and do... Even a month in Paris wasn't enough time to do everything I wanted to do! Guess I'll have to keep going back... sigh :)

I'd only check if it's something I absolutely must know. I doubt I'd go online anyway, I'd be too busy enjoying myself to go online.

Before I moved here, I was usually visiting family on most of my trips, so I had easy internet access. So yes, I did check regularly, either to ask for information or share it.

I do check when travelling but usually only contribute if I can really help somebody. Usually I'm really too busy to just chat. In my mind when travelling (usually do the Interweb just after getting up) is getting to breakfast at the right time, then if time submit reviews to TripAdvisor, then email, then any business commitments, then Rick Steves. Sometimes only the first couple get done. Then I'll try to finish the list before I go to bed, but sometimes I just sleep.

A five or ten minute investment of your time during your travels is a no-impact, well worth the effort, use of your time. Usually while I'm sipping my morning cup of coffee in a cafe or resting my legs on a park bench...if I can get a signal. Last month we were in Volgograd (Stalingrad) and I felt like I was a million miles from home. Ten minutes of reading a handful of comments on the Helpline, and I felt recharged...I'm sure the vodka helped just a bit, too.

No - I pack too light to carry web access and don't have time to stop at an internet cafe. It's hard enough to find time to make the calls I need to make.

The trouble with making calls is that, with the time difference, it's difficult to find a mutually convenient time. Someone is either working, sleeping, traveling, or doing something else. With email, I can leave them an email when it is convenient for me, and they can answer when it is convenient for them.

Never have, but I've never brought anything with me to get online with. I've got an iTouch now, but I still think I won't. I like to go overseas to feel like I've completely gotten away from home different food, language, money, culture, sights and getting online would bring me back to reality. I go on vacation to get away from that.

I joined the Helpline a couple months before my last trip and I checked it once in the 3 weeks that I was in Europe. Even though I had Internet access everywhere, I rarely used it. I'd rather be out doing things than indoors on the computer, which I can do at home.

Very rarely ... I've usually done all my research before I leave and I like to use my vacation time to enjoy the results of my research. Even though I bring an Ipod touch, I rarely have time to spend on the internet.

I brought my iPhone and I definitely checked this board and posted while in Europe. Especially since this was during the terrorist threat/toxic sludge controversies that yielded some panicked posts.

No, too busy enjoying the trip. We sure get tons of info prior. Thanks to All!

Yes, I often check the HelpLine when I'm travelling, especially since starting to travel with a Netbook. If I have net access for E-mail or Blogging I like to have a quick look, especially for any questions related to the country I'm travelling in.

Nope. If I have access, there are things I either need or want to do online, but checking the RS Helpline is not one of them.
