Hello,
I am backpacking Europe this summer. Do I need an adapter? I am only bringing my iPod, camera, and maybe a hair straightener. Thanks!
You need a plug adaptor regardless. "Maybe a hair straightener" you maybe need a voltage converter so you don't melt it.
If each appliance is dual voltage (or the charger says something like 110-240v) all you need is a plug adapter so the US plugs fit into the Euro sockets.
Thanks Nancy! They both have 110-240 so I should be good. Thanks for your help!
Laura, You need to check EACH appliance that you'll be travelling with to determine the "Input Voltage" specifications. It's likely that your iPod and Camera are rated for 100-240 VAC, but you'll definitely need to check your Hair Straightener as well. As the others mentioned, you WILL need Plug Adaptors for sure. If you'll be travelling in both the U.K. and continental Europe, you'll need two different types of Plug Adaptors. It's a good idea to pack a couple of each type, as they're easy to misplace. Happy travels!
Ok I checked everything, and they all say 110-240, so all I need is an outlet adapter not a voltage converter, correct?
Correct, all you need is an outlet adapter. If you are also going to the UK you will need a different plug adapter there.
Laura, if you bring your straightener, be sure you operate it on the proper setting. If you have a 'low' and a 'high', for instance, chances are you're supposed to use it on one or the other setting; check your manual for that. If you no longer have your manual, look it up online. Definitely bring several adapters - they fall behind dressers, under beds, and sometimes you need to piggyback two of them together to reach a particularly recessed outlet.
