Do I need a Visa or will Mastercard work just as well?
(Sorry, it's been one of those mornings. LOL)

Yes, of course!
Many years ago, on a delayed flight to Geneva, I had to transit from CDG to Orly. My Mastercard was not accepted.
Hahahahaha
Yes. No!

Wow, I didn't know Costco ran the transit system between CDG and Orly. They don't accept Mastercard in their stores either.

It did. Hopefully I'll be treated with Carte Blanche from now on.
As an American, I hope I can Express myself ok nowadays.
Sounds like some of you are a Maestro at all this.
… or are`these just your everyday Customs that you’re going through? If so, do you really have to go through them?
All this reading has made me hungry. I need to go to the Diner Club.
MasterCard, you can leave home with out it. You'll need a Visa in Europe.
Frank, "What's in your wallet?"
(Wasn't that a Capital One commercial?")
You know, checking bags, a coat check at big museums, checking the train schedule, those are big Traveler’s Checks. Should I use them?
I know people who do not have any credit cards. Everything is cash only, or a check to pay some bills if they can't do it in person.
They are worried about stolen information.
Cyn, are you thinking of "The Maestro" episode from Seinfeld? Remember he gets quite irate if you don't call him Maestro.

Outside the US, you need Traveler's Cheques.
Sadly, I believe those all have a Checkered (Chequered) Past.
But as Karl Malden used to say, “What will you do? What will you do?
You have to give Frank II some credit for this thread. It’s improved his rating, for sure.
And there was a time when you could have a Choice. Now, you get no Choice.

EDIT: The following was in response to a question that has subsequently been removed by its poster, but for anyone still reading, Maestro is/was a card that was issued in foreign countries, some where you probably need a Visa to enter. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maestro_(debit_card)
OK, one more:
In Prague, are they Traveler’s Czechs?
Frank II,
I always travel with one of each card. That way I have a backup if one card is lost or stolen, or not accepted at some merchants. I tend to keep one of the cards reasonably accessible and the other stored in my money belt, just for "emergencies".
Some got it.......
Thank you Frank, I quite enjoyed it. With a special tip of the cap to Cyn.
This thread led me to rummage through my memory Bank, and I recalled that I have a Lufthansa credit card, which afaik I have never used, and certainly don't carry around with me. Do I need it? Depend upon your definition of 'need'.
