dave, I've only been there by train, so have never driven that route. However, according to both Michelin and MapQuest, the distance is about 80 kM and the driving time a little over an hour. You may have already seen this in the Guidebook, but you'll leave the car in the large lot at the top of the hill. From there you'll either walk down to the Castle (it's a bit steep) or take the Shuttle Van (€2 PP each way). There's an excellent vantage point about half way up the hill for photos, so you might consider taking the Shuttle in one direction and walking the other. Happy travels!
