Also, there is disposable underwear. Expensive too! I like to take old socks and underwear that no one sees anyway, and throw them out. Buying disposable anything is a waste.

Not that I would use disposable socks in the first place; they are probably not that comfortable. But if your read the description from the vendor, these socks and the underwear version are specifically designed to be biodegradable. So one could argue they are more environmentally friendly then the regular variety.

A good pair of socks are crucial for overall comfort. I am very picky which socks I wear (only smartwools) as I find that wearing the wrong sock may led to blisters, sweaty and smelly feet. Socks are almost as important as the shoes you wear to make a long day of sightseeing as comfortable as it cane be!

I for one throw out socks and underwear as I go. I'll buy t-shirts on the go as well. The last hotel room I stay in usually has a pile of my former clothes left in a plastic bag in the trash. Rotten, cheap clothes take up valuable wine space.

When I went to Berlin, I wore a top that was really cute, but then it started to ball up. Very cheap, but I liked it a lot. But when it started to ball up and get on everything I sat on, then I knew I could leave it behind. I enjoyed wearing it for awhile and didn't look ratty at all. For awhile anyway. I was happy to leave it behind so I had more room for German chocolates!!!
I threw away old socks and undies too and I brought back many German chocolates for my family and stashed away enough for myself too.
Gosh, I love to travel!!!

The socks, btw, are $6 for 5 pairs.

Has anyone tried these socks?

I haven't tried these socks. But I did look at some that another traveller had bought. Your post got me curious and so some of us got to talking about this product. Sure enough, one of us had used them.

She told me that they weren't the best for walking long distances. Her experience was that they wore holes in the heel after a short time from her foot rubbing on the back of her shoe. She said that after the third pair she decided to stick to regular socks.
But hey, for the cost, why not try em yourself? Just do it at home so you can change them if need be. Just an idea...

Taking care of your feet is crucial for an enjoyable vacation. I bring good, comfortable socks and walking shoes (without spending a fortune).

Wearing worn out socks defeats the purpose. Getting blisters your first day of walking because you brought old socks seems like a false economy.

You need socks that will stand up well to a lot of walking. Buying new socks that you intend to wear out quickly doesn't really help.

Biodegradable isn't a magic word. If it's burried in a landfill (no air, sun or moisture) it won't break down for a long time. If it's burned, it still converts to gases and ash. Much better to buy a product you will get much use out of before the inevitable disposal.
