I wonder if Canada has any plans of doing anything similar?
Canadians are often mistaken as Americans when abroad. I love America and consider us one and the same. There seems to be anti-American sentiment abroad, including Europe. Identifying myself as Canadian seems to be more favourable. Regardless of how respectfully I treat other people, it seems to make a positive difference that I am Canadian and not American. Right or wrong, that has often been my experience.
Have any other Canadians travelling abroad encountered the same?

Any anti-American sentiment I've seen in Europe is typically directed more at the American government than the American people. Most Europeans understand that the people can only do so much to prevent power-hungry politicians from flexing their muscles in whatever way they wish no matter what a law or the global community thinks. I have been asked, "How could the American people elect someone like ABC?" But nobody has ever treated me poorly because I'm an American.
No matter what anyone's nationality is, by in large, IME, if you treat people with genuine respect and dignity they will return the favor. Of course this is not always true. But in general it is.
