Going to Paris in early October and looking for recs on Paris flea markets and discount shopping. Interested in men's and women's clothing, jewelery/watches, purses, pottery, cameras/lens, unique gifts. Any suggestions for places, websites, resources? Merci!

The biggest flea market is right outside Paris in Saint-Ouen. Stop by the Marché aux Puces. Take the métro to Garibaldi (Line 13) or Porte de Clignancourt (Line 4), then journey over to Rue des Rosiers.

My husband and I were in Paris for two weeks last October and went to the two big flea markets (Sorry I can't remember the names.) There wasn't anything that we found valuable enough to cart home. The prices in the department stores were also outrageous with the dollar at such a low, so I would advise that you not expect much in the way of discount shopping.

David: Exactly. What might be discount in Paris for someone paid in euros doesn't end up being very discounted for those of us paid in dollars and multiplying the euro price x 1.5. The Europeans are coming here to shop--now talk about a discount, I've had Europeans tell me that to them it seems like the entire US is on sale.

Discounts - or sales (Les Soldes) only happen twice a year in France. Where prices drop some 40-60%
Mid-January to Mid-February for Winter/Fall items
Mid-July to Mid-August for Spring/Summer
However there are few outlet type discounted shops in Paris
