My husband and I are planning to take either the RS 14 day Germany, Austria & Switzerland or the 14 Day Best of Europe tour. I am curious as to what type of dinners are served as we do not eat seafood.
Cindy, Some of the dinners on the tours will be "group dinners" and you'll be on your own for the rest. They always provide a couple of different choices with group meals to account for different tastes or food allergies. On the GAS tour, I doubt there will be a lot of seafood (but there could be some). The menu will likely be more Bratwurst and Sauerkraut and that sort of thing. On the Best of Europe tour, the menus will be more varied. If you're really concerned about the Menus, I'd suggest sending a note to the RS tour department as they'll be able to answer all your questions on the two tours you're considering. Happy travels!
I wouldn't worry about seafood, you can't really get good fresh seafood in most places in those countries anyway, so they're not exactly highlighted on menus of traditional restaurants (which I imagine will be where most of the group dinners will be). A restaurant might have one or two fish dishes and that will be it, so easy to avoid. Just be prepared to eat a lot of pork.
Just talk to your guide at the beginning of your tour. From my RS tour experiences, many guides poll the group for meat versus seafood preference when seafood is one of the main courses. It helps them and the restaurant better plan the meal. Alternatively, they should be able to arrange for the same substitute course they would plan for someone with a seafood allergy.
Have been on GAS tour (brilliant !!!). Also, couple other RS tours. The trend seems to be when there is a featured fish as the main course there is another option. On GAS tour trout was the main course in Halstatt and most went for trout (I didn't - quite a lot didn't). On one of my other tours only 4 people when for fish ... Don't let the fish thing come into your equation - it's not a problem and you'll not stick out as different! Have fun

I did the Berlin, Prague and Vienna tour and it was mostly pork, pork and more pork. ; ) It was good food, but I don't remember any fish except when I ate out on my own. I think you'll have similar cuisine on your tour. I do remember that there were vegetarian options, which really challenging for this tour per our guide. ; ) Pam
