I have just had a look at the winning and archived scrapbooks. I am a "newbie" and am wondering what software people use. I have loads of digital photos from my first 2 trips that need to be organized and am not sure what to do. What software would be easy for a beginner to use?
I use photoshop CS2, but I know a lot of digital scrappers use the cheaper and more user-friendly Photoshop elements(we got CS2 on an educational discount). These programs are not designed specifically for digital scrapbooking, which is why I like it: you don't buy a program for just one thing. You will use Photoshop for many other projects as well and you can edit your photos. Plus, you can still have your scrapbook pages printed if you want; the files just need to be saved as jpegs and then you can use any of the various online book publishing sites such as MyPublisher or the Apple one (not sure what it's called). Also, there are hundreds of free "digital kits" to get you started with various "papers" and "elements." Basically, files of digital scrapbook supplies. message me privately if you want more specifics! Hope this helps, and enjoy this other aspect of travel. It's great fun!
I am so glad you brought this up! I have been surfing the net and looking at digital scrapbook websites and just could not figure out how Photoshop fit in with the scrapbook part. So you need Photoshop AND a scrapbook program?
I've got the adobe premier elements 3.0 and photoshop 5.0 software that was bundled together. It's good if you've got video and photos you are meshing together. Everybody hastheir favorites though.
You can do digital scrapbooking with either Photoshop Elements or Photoshop CS without requiring any additional software.
Photoshop CS in particular is not meant for scrapbooking alone but for many uses. It's quite expensive and has a steep learning curve. It is a very powerful program with lots of features however.
Photoshop Elements allows you to store and organize photos, adjust your digital pics and do digital scrapbooking. It doesn't have as many features as Photoshop CS but it's also about 1/6 of the price.
There are other applications as well for digital scrapbooking such ACDSee and many others.
If I may suggest a scrapbook site that has a messageboard and training info dedicated to digital scrapbooking, try www.twopeasinabucket.com.
Good luck and enjoy!
I have never tried scrapbooking. I do use my photos to build digital slideshows or photo essays.
Like everything else there are all sorts of products on the market. Two products that I am familiar with are PicxToExe (www.wnsoft.com and ProShow Gold (www.photodex.com). I believe you can download a trial version of either one.
I add my pictures, add my background music create the slideshow and then burn the show to a DVD.
Wanted to add that I just took a look at the award-winning scrapbooks from 2006 and I would guess they were not done with digital scrapbook software per se but more likely MS Frontpage or something like that. Those are more webpage/blog like than a scrapbook page (in the strictest sense of the word). Just wanted to mention that so you won't be disappointed if you don't get quite the same results with any of the software suggested.
