Digital Photo Frames

...are one of those gifts that "keeps on giving". We have a dedicated digital picture frame on a shelf in our living room that cycles through many of our vacations. With almost 30 years of digital travel photos with each other (the ones from the 90s are scans of originals), it is amazing to be reminded regularly of all the adventures we've had over the years.

I need to add the latest batch from our Netherlands/Norway trip earlier this month, but we're still trimming that down to a reasonable amount of "good" ones. If you don't have one already, I gotta recommend you consider getting one - whether a traditional one like we have, a repurposed iPad/tablet, a slideshow screensaver on an old PC, or even on a new "smart" TV. It almost always brings a smile to our faces, and also can bring back fading memories when we spot different photos from different trips.

Just this morning, I spotted a photo we took of two British gentlemen who were sat next to us at a table during our honeymoon in Menton France. We had already had our "real" honeymoon in Kauai the year before, but my wife's godmother, invited us for a week with her at her vacation spot in France, and it was sort of an old-fashioned (for 2004) French hotel with dinners included. We had meals with her every evening, and struck up a conversation with the two dapper Brits sitting next to us. Both she and the Brits were well into the 70s/80s, and they all flirted while we laughed. Anyway, we snapped a few photos of the two Brits all decked out for dinner and with my wife's godmother & them, and us all together. She's turned 100(!) and seeing the photos of that time really make me smile, feel appreciative, and also get a sense of time passing. With luck, we will get to Paris next spring and will get a chance to visit Genevieve again. We visited her the last time we were in Paris (2021) and she was in a nursing home and did not remember my wife :( but she was still feisty like we remembered, and we could talk about the times she did remember.

But that's the sort of reason I love the digital photo frame - not just the beautiful photos we have taken over the years, but the memories that are tied to them and which, if not prompted to be thought about would like remain in the recesses of our memory. Those Brits and Genevieve are great memories, and it's wonderful to have them brought back to the forefront of our minds once in a while.

What wonderful memories you have that pop up on your digital photo frame! We have one that I sometimes just can't move beyond to get about my day. It holds me captive reminiscing. Another great feature is that if you want, you can share your "magic detwanger code" with others and they can post photos to you on the digital photo frame that all of a sudden show up. Our older son does that and all of a sudden, we see photos of our grandchildren in Portugal, in Vermont skiing, etc.
One of the great things about travel other than the planning and the being there are the memories that are kept alive evoking emotions felt at the time.

My mom's newer frame has the "share to her frame" option. My siblings send grandkid photos to her that she really enjoys. I'd send endless pup photos to her, but she thinks we spoil our dog. :D Sadly, for her, travel photos don't really get her enthusiastic about travel.
