Deutsche Bahn mobile tickets & city transit passes

Hi all,

I just booked train tickets from Berlin to Hamburg, where my husband and I will spend the day before returning to Berlin that evening. It's been a couple of years since I last ordered tickets on DB, but apparently they now offer mobile tickets! This is great in terms of not having to carry and possibly lose printed tickets, so I downloaded the DB app and opted for the mobile tickets. There's a QR code that the conductor will read on the train, so all that is straightforward.

I decided to also go with the option of adding a day pass for public transit in Hamburg to make life a bit easier. Has anyone used this option before? I don't think I've ever even encountered a fare checker on the U- or S-Bahn in Germany, but in the event that I do, I hope they're familiar with this mobile add-on scheme, because I don't trust my rusty German skills to explain it, haha.

It should not be a problem, I used the mobile app last summer in Germany and it was no problem. And yes the ticket checkers are well used to seeing the mobile app in operation.

Please note that Hamburg is probably the most advanced city in Germany in terms of public transport tickets. You can download any ticket - day ticket (peak), day ticket (off peak), single rides etc. from their website as QR code even on short notice. Fare checkers are used to it.

For future reference I find it cheaper to buy single rides on the HVV app (there is a discount if you buy on the app) instead of paying for the day ticket - which on the other hand of course gives you the ease of the mind.
