I know this question has an incredible array of choices, but I'm interested in what folks might offer as potential sites and locations along this route that they might spend some time in. We will have 10 days to travel slowly by car from Verdun to Salzburg. Our current thoughts are: a couple of days in Verdun, maybe a day or two in the northern part of of the Alsace (been to the south part already), over to the southern part of the Black Forest for a couple of days, over to the Bodensee(Lake Constance) area for 3-4 days and then to Salzburg. Any other areas that you would visit instead?

It all sounds good... but if possible, make sure you spend a few days at Lake Constance... it is one of my favorites and an absolutely beautiful place. I have been a number of times and consider it a real highlight... I would go again in a minute.

I might go to Trier, up the Mosel, the middle Rhine, Munich, then Salzburg (with side trips that interest you).
