Delta Sale!

I just found tickets on Delta for June/July for $700 roundtrip Phoenix to Zurich. While Zurich is not our final destination, that was too inexpensive of a ticket to get us across the pond to pass up especially for that time of year.

Check out the sale maybe you will find what you need. Happy Travels!

Doesn't seem to be the "big Delta sale" from last fall yet. I checked from Portland to Europe. No special prices right now.

By contrast, last November, Delta had a massive fare sale on numerous US cities to Europe. For example, I booked (but then later canceled) Portland to Paris for the next May for $460 RT with good flights and times. Many dates were available up to almost a year later. I know a number of people hoping for the same Delta sale this fall...

Good to know about the possible Delta sale. Going to Portugal end of May with RS and would love to find bargain tickets from Portland OR.

Pumping in a couple sets of dates in 2018 from my flyover airport to Europe reveals round trip fares of damn near $1600. No sale.

I got one of those $500 round trips last fall, went to Madrid in March. But I have not seen much this year and I am trying not to look. I need to stay home for a while :)

I could not find the price for any city but Zurich. It might have just been one of those computer algorithms. Gone today already. Weird how low fares will pop up for such a brief period of time.

My friend got LAX-CDG for $600.00 each last week on American and I just looked on kayak and that deal is still showing.

It pays to be vigilant and to have alerts set-up on Google Flights. You never know when a good fare will pop up. Sadly, I have never seen anything in the $450 range out of Phoenix like others were seeing out of Denver and Portland last year.

As you said, to anyone interested in a future sale: put a Google Flights alert on some sample dates where you might fly. Then you should find out quickly when a general sale starts! The last sale lasted several days - wasn't just a few hour flash sale, but who knows if Delta will do it again.

I am still seconding guess myself a bit about flying into Zurich, but that was the best price by far that I have ever seen from Phoenix to the other side of the pond. Looking at the wonderfully cheap intra European flights, I am reassured it was a good decision. As I keep reminding myself. . . Zurich is a large airport right in the middle - it is convenient to everywhere we plan to be. . .

Happy airfare hunting to all. . .

Zurich airport is similar to Venice. In general, all goes well. Zurich is a great city to explore, has travel options to Italy, France, Germany, and where you heart desires. It will be cooler than Phoenix and take a rain coat!

Zurich airport is great. Very convenient rail station right at the airport, to get you anywhere you need to go.

Thanks for all the affirmations. I guess a bit of second guessing is just my nature. I have flown through Zurich before. I agree. It is an easy airport to navigate and I can easily get myself where we are ultimately going. I knew those Swiss Francs that were left over from our last trip would come in handy. . .

I am still pinching myself at the great fare for Phoenix for summer! Definitely the time of year to be exiting Phoenix. . .

Hi all. This post got me in the mood to browse for next summer, and I see round trip Minneapolis to Budapest on Air Canada Rouge for many dates next June / July for $506 round trip.

Looking for fares and dreaming of the next trip is addictive! Glad others are finding good fares out there. It gets a little nerve wracking trying decide when to hit the "confirm" button. Research and knowing what is a "good fare" for your home airport certainly pays off.

Happy Fare Hunting!

Not Delta but Lufthansa. My sister and I just bought RT Denver-Munich-Paris and return next May for less than $700 each. That included everything plus a small fee to our travel agent. Yes, we are archaic enough to still use one! Paid off for sure. I can't remember ever scoring tickets that cheap to anywhere in Europe from Denver!

Nice ... you got a good deal on the airfare. Zurich is small enough that you can see the main sights in a day (must see Marc Chagall's stained glass windows at the Fraumünster church) ... including the obligatory stop at Sprungli ... while getting over the jet lag before starting the rest of your trip. We flew into Zurich last year right after Christmas for our trip across Switzerland on the Bernina Express, then down to Bellagio on Lake Como and ending in Milan, flying out from MXP. Zurich was again our starting point this past September for our trip to France ... quick train ride to Strasbourg for a few days, then another train across France to Normandy and Mont St Michel, then back to Paris for the last three days before flying out of CDG. It's a good starting point and, being centrally located on the continent, provides fairly quick access to wherever you want to go next.

United ( and its partners) is having a sale, too -- I got SFO-Paris round trip for under $450 in April/May 2018. Nonstop into Paris on United, back on Swiss 1-stop via Zurich. Wasn't planning on that trip, but who can resist a bargain ??

I would like to track prices for multi city routing on Google Flights but don't see the Track Prices button for that. I see it on the Round Trip page but not the Multi City page. Any idea how to track on Multi City?

Great suggestions for Zurich. The funny irony is that we visited Murren and Montreux last year and, while we loved our visit, we swore we would not be back to Switzerland any time soon due to the high cost. . . Funny how fate comes back to get you. We will probably stick to only one night on perhaps each end of our trip in Zurich, but we can see some great places in that time. Thank you for the suggestions!

Peter, the only way I found to track a multi-city is to choose specific flights from those listed. You will then have the track button at the bottom of the page. I have done that by choosing several different combinations to try and get a sense if the prices are dropping.

One more comment about searching for flights - Several times Google Flights has found a lower fare then I could find by searching on the website the a specific airline.

For example: Using Google Flights I could search PHX to CDG and see a great deal using Delta and partners. I would then go to the Delta website (enable the partner airlines for my search) put in the same airports and dates and get a higher price. However, if I went back to Google and used the link to take me to Delta with my flights already selected, I could book the flights directly through Delta at the price I found using Google Flights.

My point is when you see a post about an airfare sale, make sure you check it using a general search engine not just on the airline's website. I think a big part of it is the search engine does a bigger inclusion of the "partner" airlines than the main airline might.

NB: I just used Delta in my example. I have seen this with American and United also.
