Declining hotel costs

For the most part, the average cost of hotel rooms are falling around the world due to the current economic climate. As an example, rooms in Paris have fallen by 8% since last year, and rooms in New York have fallen by 16%.

Here is a list of the twelve most expensive cities to stay in a hotel, from The Economist.

It's quite interesting. I'm just beginning to plan a trip to Italy this fall and I emailed a couple of tour guides in Tuscany and one made specific mention of offering the best possible price these days, considering the economic situation. I also have seen that on a lot of hotel websites the prices for 2009 are lower than the ones posted for 2008 (on sites that post both years). Good news for those of us who are able to afford to take a trip this year, I suppose.

Interesting website you provided, thank you. I noticed that Milan is high on the list of most expensive cities for hotels, which is consistent with my impression that if you are in Milan during business convention season and during the week, it's tough to find reasonably priced accommodations that are decent.
