December/January itinerary help

Hi,

I needed some help with my itinerary to europe this December. We( by brother, husband and I, between 20-30) will be arriving in Amsterdam on Dec 26 and spending a couple days there(2-3), and then near the end of the trip we want to be in Munich on January 7th to spend a couple of days driving to Frankfurt and seeing castles and stopping at smaller towns on the way. I'm just not sure where we should go from Dec 26-Jan 7. One option was to go to Paris and then make a stop in Switzerland, but we arent into winter sports that much and not sure if stopping at Switzerland would be the best for us.

Anyone have any other suggestions? or know what parts of Switzerland there are many other activities or sites to see? Also is driving in Germany a bad idea? we are from Western Canada and we get a lot of snow and the temperature usually is around -30 C.

Thanks for all your help!

There is so much to see and do between Amsterdam and Munich:

  • Düsseldorf + Schloß Benrath (for your French style chateaux)
  • Cologne (the most Bohemian city outside of Prague)
  • Mosel river valley and Rhine river valley
  • Speyer, with a cathedral built in the year 1050 + http://www.technik-museum.de/en
  • The German Wine Road in the hinterlands of Speyer
  • Stuttgart with the Porsche and Mercedes Benz HQs and museums
  • The Black Forrest - in winter a delight
