dealing with Trusted Traveler Programs

I'm posting this since the subject appears here occasionally and people seem to be interested in how difficult it is (or isn't) to deal with Trusted Traveler Programs. We got our first NEXUS cards 5 year ago. In July 2021, I renewed mine online. My wife did hers 3 months later and received the new card in about 2 months. Mine just showed up after more than 13 months. When I went online to "activate" it, there was an alert about big backups and delays in processing TTPs. Some friends of ours have had their renewal in process for over 15 months now. I will advise that people hope for the best, but plan for the worst.

On the flip side, our Global Entry memberships are expiring in early 2023. We submitted the online renewal application Friday night and by mid-morning Monday had new approval for another 5 year term with no interview. So, the best can happen, too. They are apparently giving 12 month extensions to current members because of the backlog. I have no idea how we got so lucky.

Thanks for mentioning this - I received my renewal online relatively quickly, without needing to do another interview, but it’s been about two months and I haven’t received my new card. I was beginning to think maybe I missed it in the mail somehow but sounds like they may be backed up on sending the new cards to some people. I’ll keep looking for my new card in the mail and hopefully I’ll get it before it expires next February - or maybe they’ll give me an extension!

We have TSA pre-check, which is not that difficult to obtain, but I have resisted doing Global Entry since I have to travel 300 miles to Atlanta, GA for the interview.

My husband and I both renewed our Nexus cards online in February of this year. Despite a hiccup caused by my husband misreading the renewal information (some of you may remember I went spinning into the stratosphere) our new cards came back within a few weeks.

We just received our Global Entry cards. We used the "Enrollment on Arrival" option for our interviews since the Indianapolis Airport does not offer them. We were returning from Europe through Toronto. The process went smoothly except for the fact that there was no-one on duty to do the interview, even though there was supposed to be according to the schedule. We reminded the Superintendent of Customs/Immigration of that fact and he managed to find an officer to help us. Canadians are SO nice.
