Day Use Hotels for weary travellers

Problem solved!!!

We have an economy flight to Barcelona that leaves Portland, Oregon at 7am, arrives in Barcelona at their 6am. We are not able to get into our hotel room until 4pm/16:00, and due to health and age concerns, we had been very worried that this would be a horrible start to our trip until a cousin tipped me off to this hotel option. Dayuse Hotels in Barcelona • Hotels by the hour | Dayuse.com

We now have a hotel room for the hours 11am-5pm/17:00 for $81. It is cancellable and very close to our hotel that I had reserved.

Dayuse is not limited to Barcelona, so if you have the same issue, especially flying from the west coast, check this out. We still plan to use Rick's advice on getting outside as much as possible to set our body for Spain time, but will be able to rest a bit and stay safely on our feet.

I’ve used them a couple of times near an airport. When I needed to be able to get cleaned up and presentable and it works well.

I had reason to look into the "minute suites" at DFW recently - $50 an HOUR!

I have used day hotels for long layovers (8ish hours) en route from the US to India via the Emirates or Singapore. I liked how the day hotel rooms had no windows, so the pitch black environment allowed me to gain some much needed sleep; I could afford only economy airline seats on these flights, so it was difficult for me to sleep deeply on the plane.

Another option might be an airport lounge. When I flew to Egypt last year via Paris, I had a 6 hour layover at CDG airport. I paid in advance, with FlyingBlue points, for access to AirFrance's lounge. The lounge was pretty crowded, but it had comfortable sofas, private shower rooms, good food, and lots of complimentary champagne.

I do want to clarify that the ones I used were normal airport hotels so no “dark” rooms.

Most hotels have a day rate or early checkin rate.
We have taken advantage of this several times flying into Europe in the morning hours.

Just to clarify, the Dayuse site I found has "standard" hotel rooms that are being rented for day use in addition to the regular overnight guests. The hours offered were typically 11am, but I did find a check in time for 10am at a Best Western in Barcelona. The rooms I saw had windows and were of a standard room size, depending upon the hotel design. There must have been 50 hotels in central Barcelona participating in this day rental option. I did not look at the area around BCN because I wanted to get into town while we were still awake, able to take some walks and find better food choices.
*I had already checked with our hotel for adding time or getting an early check-in, but being a small hotel, it was not an option.
