I would really appreciate some advice regarding a day trip my husband and I would like to take from the Wurzburg area of Germany. We'll be visiting family there in June and want to have a day for a day trip in the area. We're currently looking at Bamberg and Heidelberg and would appreciate any info on those cities or any other suggestions for other cities as well. We're 27, big history buffs, and just generally enjoy immersing ourselves into the culture of wherever we go. Please advise, and thank you in advance!

Why go to Heidelberg when there are so many places to visit nearer Würzburg?
Besides Bamberg, there is Rothenburg odT, Iphofen, Nürnberg, maybe Coburg. There are also Bad Mergentheim and Weikersheim on the Romantic Road.
I'm sure others will suggest more places near Würzburg worth seeing.
