My family of four (teens ages 12 and 14) are driving from Vianden Luxembourg to Abcoude, Netherlands in one full day. Normally the drive is about 4 hours but we want to break it up and don't mind adding a little extra drive time to see some cool things. Any suggestions of a few stops we should make along the way (or not too far out of the way) for memorable site-seeing and to stretch our legs? Thanks!

Not sure how far from the main freeway---3 Borders Point is where you can have your feet and a hand in 3 different countries---Germany, Belgium, and Luxembourg.

You can visit Thorn and / or ’s Hertogenbosch, both close (like Abcoude) to the A2 freeway in the Netherlands. Thorn is a lovely village known for it’s white painted houses. The other a typical Dutch city, but with a pleasant “southern” vibe.
Tongeren in Belgium has a nice historic main square and nearby a topnotch Gallo-Roman museum.

WW2 related museums can be of interest like the one in Overloon, the Freedom Museum near Nijmegen and Airborne Museum Hartenstein near Arnhem. The two latter are both about Operation Market Garden.
Maastricht is certainly worth a stop or a visit too and also along the A2 freeway.
