Day trip from Amsterdam

Looking to take a day trip from Amsterdam in April. Would like to keep the train trip under 2 hours each direction. Not interested in Paris.... any suggestions?

Zaanse Schans is fun and easy from A'dam. To get there we took the train to Koog-Zaandijk from A'dam Centraal Station. Just east of there are the small towns of Broek in Waterland, Volendam, Marken, and Monnickendamm, also easy to reach. This is a nice area for biking around as well.

Keukenhof (gardens) is a top choice as well.

You are spioled for choices. Just in Neatherlands there are within an hour and a half from Amsterdam: Delft (charming square and leaning tower art museum, porcelain factories); Haarlem (great art Museum); Alkmaar (go on cheese market day); The Hague (green spaces and more art); since is spring, the gardens in Lisse; Horne (picturesque sea town); plus several more I'm forgetting. In Belgium there's Antwerp just over an hour away, Brussels just under two hours by high speed train, and Ghent about two hours 15 minutes minutes away.

Depending upon your interests, Arnhem and Nijmegen make for an interesting daytrip from Amsterdam. They are about 90 minutes away by train from Centraal Station. Both have many WWII sites to visit. There is also the great collection of Van Gogh paintings you can see at the National Park.
