I am looking for a new day pack to do a 12 day trip in Europe. This will be my only "lugage". I'm looking for something in the 2500 cu. in. range. Does anyone have suggestions?
Thanks,
Rich, Check the websites for small Packs from Eagle Creek or Osprey. You could also have a look at the Appenzel Daypack on this website (click the "Travel Store" tab at the top). Although it's somewhat smaller than you specified, it's very popular with some "minimalist travelers". Happy travels!
Considering that the carryon allowance for most airlines is 2600 to 2800 in³, 2500 should come under the carryon definition, not a day pack. The Campmor Essential Carryon is 21"x13"x9", 2457 in³. Mine only weighs 1# 13oz. I've used it as my only luggage for 2-3 trips to Europe. It should work fine.
I agree with the Eagle Creek and Osprey recommendations. I travel with the Eagle Creek ORV trunk. http://www.ebags.com/product/eagle-creek/orv-gear-bag-26-duffel/108618?productid=1285798 It looks like luggage, but has straps that hide behind the back panel for use when needed. It's the one piece I take on every European adventure. You might also check ebags.com. They have travel luggage that is designed in house and rates very highly with their customers...price is also around $100. This one might be a bit bigger than you want: http://www.ebags.com/product/ebags/mother-lode-tls-weekender-convertible/143101?productid=1370035 This is another option: http://www.ebags.com/product/ebags/weekender-etech-convertible/15026?productid=56585
Rich, I agree with Lee. The Campmor Essential Carryon is a great bag. You can also pick up the Rick Steves Convertible Carry On(21" x 14" x 9" & 3lbs) and Appenzell Daypack(16" x 12" x 7" & 1 lb, 8 oz) on Ebags.com.
Patagonia's MLC (Maximum Legal Carry-On). http://www.patagonia.com/us/product/patagonia-mlc-bag-maximum-legal-carry-on-bag?p=48107-0-484 Stats: 45 L (2746 cu in) 20.5" x 13.5" x 7" Got one of these got an outgoing boss recently, and he just KVELLED. It was beautifully made, and looked awesome. Just the right size, too. I won't do an ad for Patagonia here, but if you read the product info, I think you'll agree it's pretty awesome. It is listed as being the right size for 3 - 5 days' worth of clothing.... and you are going for 12... but I assume if you want a smaller bag you'll be wearing things a couple of times each/doing laundry. Anyway, this super-looking bag is the next thing on my "to buy" list for my trip to Paris in May.
I used my new Campmore this weekend. It worked well, weighs next to nothing and the price was right - that's a tough combination to beat.
I just came back from a week in Vegas, and Rick's Appenzel Day Pack was my main bag( his Civita bag was my day pack). If you like to travel light , its a great combination...
