I'm planning on travelling amongst Euro (Austria/Slovakia) & Non-Euro countries (Hungary/Czech/Poland). I will use my cards as much as possible but will probably have some small amount of cash in each country. Upon arriving/exiting each, is it better to wait until the next destination to exchange and best places to do this? TY
Spend it before you leave the country. Use it for part of your hotel bill. Snacks. You will likely need almost no cash.
TY Larry. Good idea.
Larry. As is often the case, nailed it. Get it from a local bank ATM and spend it at the train station before leaving town. Except in Hungary. In Hungary I can give you an address to mail it to.
We used the last of our cash at CDG, buying 2 bottles of a particular pastis we can't find in the US. It was priced the same as in the markets in France, so not a waste of money. And being from the duty-free shop, we were given the bottles on board and didn't have to worry about how carefully we packed them in our checked bags.
Also, leftover euros can be saved for the next trip, or to give to our kids or grandkids for any trips they will make.
TY Mr. E, how would that work?
TY Judy as well for your input.
I have small-denomination coins from Hungary, Czechia and Poland that I like to use as golf ball markers on the putting greens. They're residue from the ~$10 worth of currency I obtained in each nation for local use.
I'm very opposed to using cash, regardless of what the local currency might be. Memories on the golf course are about the only benefit I realize from having had to use it.
