Trying to decide where to go for an excursion. Do a Rhodes walking tour or Lindos
Barbara,
The answer will depend on you.......what your interests are, and how physically fit you are, etc. and what time of year you will be there. A couple of years ago, we took an excursion that included both Rhodes and Lindos. We walked thru the little village area of Lindos (mostly cute little tourist-oriented shops) and then climbed up to the ruins of the acropolis, which had a truly wonderful view. We are in good shape and used to a lot of walking/climbing, but it was a lot of steps and it was very, very hot (late August/early September). But, I'm so very glad we did it. Be sure to have a bottle of water with you. For our walking tour of Rhodes, I felt we could have pretty much done that on our own and would have been just as happy. It's easy to see Rhodes on one's own, and it is a very short walk to where cruise ships dock. But,the guide did point out certain buildings and talked a bit about the history....but you could read up ahead of time, too. Lindos is a long ride from Rhodes, so stick w/ the excursion for a trip there. Rhodes was truly magical as we approached it via ship. Enjoy your trip.
Thanks for your input
It depends on what you're looking for. If you want to go to a beach or climb up a good-sized hill to see an acropolis, Lindos would be good. It has a lovely, sandy beach, bordered by tavernas, with sunbeds/umbrellas for rent. But it's a long trip there, by bus or boat, and was very hot the day we were there so we skipped the climb. It felt like a wasted day. If you're interested in history and medieval buildings, I think the Rhodes walking tour would be more interesting. Old town has lots to see.
Thanks. We're going the end of August and I know it will be extremely hot so maybe Rhodes is best.
You can get more reviews at cruisecritic.com. They will have port reviews, you can focus on the ones from August to see what people had to say about the weather and excursion choices.
