CPAP Case and Cooler Bricks

I'm trying to be innovative for my trip. My CPAP machine is an additional free carry-on with our flights. Instead of my standard CPAP bag, I was thinking I could buy a collapsible cooler that I could put my equipment in, squash the bag down to the equipment (plus supplies). I know ice is going to be hard to find, but if I did this, I'd have a cooler to keep meds/drinks cold when I'm not traveling by train/car from hotel to hotel two hotels don't have fridges, not even for rent sigh).

We're going for a month, so I'm trying to keep my checked bag weight light, and I'm already at 20pds (including the suitcase weight). Has anyone else tried this type of machine transport?

Also, has anyone ever packed cooler bricks in their checked bags? I've tried I'm debating it, because I'm pretty sure TSA is gonna open my bag is they see those. I'd like to avoid them messing up my well-ordered bag. They always just shove everything back into the bag.

TIA

I’m planning on freezing a bottle of water to use on the plane as an ice pack for my in flight sandwich. That might be easier than cooler bricks. It will weigh nothing when empty. Then you could ask the hotel to put it in the freezer overnight before moving hotels. I assume you would have to ask the hotel to freeze cooler bricks.

Another thing to consider: once you use the cooler for food/drinks, you’ll need something else to transport your cpap machine. Another bag.

Thanks Mark, Travel

I don't want to carry on the bricks. I'd put them in my checked bag if I take them, but still not sure I want to do that. They'll look like I'm packing something like C4 and that will probably be an auto open bag by TSA

We have refrigerators all but 5 nights out of 30, so I'll fold up a small bag in checked bag for the 3 different travel days. Not optimal, but I can swing that.

As for buying things in London, I've been reaching out to various outdoor stores in London. They don't stock coolers, etc. during fall/winter months. I wanted to buy that stuff there, but no one seems to be having it in stock when we arrive in Sep. I'll get it worked out. Just wondered if anyone had done the CPAP in a cooler deal.

I haven't put my CPAP stuff in a cooler but on this last trip, I just put it in with my luggage as I hate dealing with carrying a third bag (allowed or not). I put the heavy machine and cords in the carry-on and the hose, reservoir and mask in my personal bag, and everything was fine. I didn't even get a raised eyebrow from the TSA and it was nice to to have to deal with the satchel. It did add some weight but I had already been pretty restrictive with my luggage so even with the CPAP, I was at 20 lbs.

We travelled last year with a cpap, and a small travel container with an ice brick in it for meds. It all fit in the cpap bag. There are several options for the ice brick/medical packages on Amazon.
