Cote d'Azur, Provence, Brittany, Paris, Switzerland Honeymoon for the "been there, done that" crowd.

Hello all,

My fiancé and I are looking at a 3.5 week honeymoon in Europe from 20 September to 14 October. He's from Switzerland I studied abroad extensively in France. We are looking forward to re-treading some familiar haunts (Paris, Brittany, Bern) and discovering some new things (Cote d'Azur, Provence). We like hiking, eating, drinking and living when on trips.

We're looking for a couple of recommendations:

  • intimate, upscale romantic hotels (in the vein of Domaine des Etangs in Charente or Hotel Villa Honegg near Lucerne) along our proposed itinerary
  • gites or hotels de charme in Southern France or Brittany suitable for a honeymoon
  • honeymoon-worthy activities off the beaten path in any of these destinations (no Eiffel Tower or Tour d'Argent, something more like a cooking class at the Cordon Bleu)
  • Restaurants in Brittany.

I'd also love feedback on this proposed itinerary. Is there anything I should definitely see along this route? Amendments?

  • Arrive in Nice, Rent a car
  • 4 nights in a gite overlooking Eze. Explore Cote d'Azur by car.
  • 3 nights in a luxury hotel in the Luberon. Explore Provence by car.
  • 1 night in Lyon or Grenoble (waypoint stop to break up driving)
  • 3 nights at chateau hotel in Charente
  • 3 or 4 nights in Rennes. Explore Brittany/Normandy by car.
  • TGV from Rennes to Paris.
  • 3 or 4 nights in Paris
  • train from Paris to Zurich. Get another rental car.
  • 2 nights at Hotel Villa Honegg
  • Spend the rest of the trip with family in Bern

Great suggestion for Eze - Domaine Pins Paul

Sounds like a decent plan. There are a lot of really nice places to see in the mountainous Eastern part of France too while you're passing through there (Annecy, Grenoble, etc.). But I guess that may not be as interesting to someone from Switzerland?

I see you are down with the "get another rental car" thing, e.g. ditch the car in one place and rent another later if needed.

I suggest you do the same thing in Rennes, having ditched the Provence car in Avignon or Lyon.

It will save you a ton of time and frazzle.
