Any ideas for a good read set in and around Copenhagen? Not too long cause going lots of other places, so lots of other books!
I know, you asked for books, not TV shows. But if you can find it, check out this excellent Danish TV show, "Forbrydelsen (The Killing)": http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00y4z22
I am addicted to The Killing! So who killed Rosie?
It's a children's book, but I enjoyed Number the Stars. Very quick read.
"So who killed Rosie?" I just discovered it about a month ago, so I'm not there yet... and I'm watching it subtitled in a language that's not my native tongue, so it takes a little longer. I'll send you a PM, if you want, when I reach the end. But... I'm just glad the real Copenhagen isn't as dark and dreary as depicted in the show. EDIT: I'm assuming that "Rosie" is the US equivalent to Danish teenager "Nanna"?
There is a Danish crime writer named Jussi Adler-Olsen who is just coming out with his first English translation on the Northamerican market. He's very successful in Europe in several translations. I liked his first book very much: The Keeper of Lost Causes ("Mercy" in GB)
American television has a show on AMC. I understand it is very similar to the Danish show. It is in season 2. Don't tell me who killed Rosie! I wonder how many seasons this goes? The American show is set in Seattle. I live near there. It is not as dark or does it rain as hard there as it does in the show.
I thought the Adler-Olsen book was fantastic. The Scandinavian countries have so many mystery authors that there is a great selection out there. I read mysteries set in the countries I plan to visit to learn about the locale and it provides an interesting perspective about the people.
