We are looking for ideas for places where it might be cooler in Europe in July and August, when we leave our pretty hot home location. We have traveled a bit in the UK and Sweden and will return there, but are wondering about some other places in Europe we might not be thinking of where it usually doesn’t go above 85 degrees F.
Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks.
Iceland.
Ireland, Scotland, Orkney, Hebrides, Fair Isle. Possibly Finland and Norway, north German coast, maybe the Baltic states, but I believe they can all get very hot in midsummer
How about the Swiss Alps?
Netherlands or anywhere in Scandinavia will not usually be hot.
Also Northern France and Belgium. You could get a heatwave even in England but it’s pretty rare.
To the places mentioned above, add:
The northern coast of Spain--the stretch between Galicia and the Basque Country
I assume also Wales and northern England.
You can find actual, historical, day-by-day weather statistics on the website timeanddate.com. I like to check the most recent five years' data, because weather can vary quite a lot from year to year. For summer trips, I'm basically checking to see how many days in the pertinent month(s) went over 100F, over 95F, over 90F, over 85F and over 80F. This process is a lot more reliable than looking at average high temperatures for the month. Those obscure the unpleasant extremes and in many cases do not include the most recent years.
