Hello everyone,
I've come across a new bag that is much smaller than the ones recommended on previous postings, Does anyone have any comments regarding the REI Overnight bag (2 lbs 3 oz; 18" x 12.5" x 7" )?
Might help if you gave us a link to the webpage. I can't find the bag on REIs website. I found it here. At 1575 cu in (actual dimensions) it is smaller than most bags we've seen. They say its max capacity is 2075 ci, but given the basic dimensions, at that capacity it would be bulging somewhere and might not fit in a sizing frame (but you don't have fill it to 2075 cu in.) It's a little bigger than the Apenzell bag (that's good), but weighs almost a pound more (not good). (I'm a little more interested in light weight than small capacity.) It looks like it opens fully to pack (good). It weighs almost a half pound more than the Essential Carryon, but is a lot smaller, and doesn't have the hideaway straps. It does have a sternum strap (good). OK, I watched the video. The straps do hide away. I think that is essential for a carry on.
I have the bag although I haven't used it. I plan to do a review for my website in the near future. Overall, it's not a bad bag. The backpack straps do hideaway, sort of, but the pouch is open at the top so you can't completely hide them. It's fairly sturdy. seems to be well built, and if looking for a smaller than maxiumum carry-on, this will do the job. And at a fairly reasonable price. They were out of stock for a few months and just got back in a couple of weeks ago.
